MAGNESIUM STEARATE: magnesium octadecanoate, CAS# 557-04-0. Ester of magnesium & stearic acid (magnesium is a naturally occurring metal, stearic acid is derived from vegetable oil). This fine white soapy powder is not only a filling agent but provides texture and consistency to powders. It has lubricating qualities and help the powders adhere to the skin and contributes to the binding properties of the final product. General usage rate in loose and pressed powders is about 0.5%.
