German Chamomile is also known as blue chamomile, the major constituents are (-)-a- bisabolol (up to 50%), a sesquiterpene alcohol, and chamzulene, a sesquiterpene hydrocarbon. The oil has a deep blue colour and a strong herbaceous medicinal smell.

German chamomile oil is well known for its anti-inflammatory properties that have been extensively documented. The a-bisabolol found in German chamomile promotes granulation and tissue regeneration. German chamomile also exhibits antispasmodic, cholagogue and choleretic activity. The essentail oil also has demonstrated liver regeneration properties Battaglia (2005).
