A nobilis or Chamaemelum nobile Roman chamomile is also known as English chamomile. Roman chamomile oil is predominantly composed of aliphatic esters such as isobutyl angelate and isoamyl angelate. The properties of Roman chamomile are largely influenced by its high easter content. The oil has excellent anti-spasmodic and sedative properties and it has been used topically to reduce inflamation and accelerate healing. Roman chamomile oil is generally perceived as having a more pleasing aroma than German chamomile oil and is generally more suitable for its effect upon inhalation, for its sedative and calming properties.
