Caustic soda also known as Sodium Hydroxide, Lye or Potash is used to make soap. Used sensibly (I always recommend using a facemask, goggles and gloves) there is no need to worry about this product. Once soap is made it is not longer caustic but chemically a Salt. You cannot make cold process soap without the use of Caustic Soda.
