Working with these ingredients you will find that they are not as forgiving as your average e-wax blends. If you follow the instructions that we have provided we feel you can successfully use these naturally derived products
1.       Before formulating your own recipes using this combination make a small trial batch following our instructions EXACTLY. By doing this, you will know how this emulsifier reacts initially. This will help you when you start making your own changes. If you have reactions you will better know what it is that you have added that is causing you problems.
2.       Please make sure you have all the proper tools including a thermometer to ensure you have not over or under heated the emulsifier and oils. After you have made your first batch and are ready to start with your own recipes you need to take the following into consideration.

AS102 may not be behaving properly for some of the following reasons:
1.       Not checking the temperatures of the two phases. The water phase should never reach boiling nor should the oils phase. Never exceed the temperature of 70° centigrade or 160° Fahrenheit. If you have separation, curdling or grainiess most likely this is your cause.
2.       Using more than 20% oils without adding a suitable "oil absorber" (e.g.a co-emulsifier or a starch)
3.       Mixing too long or too quickly, or with tools that tend to incorporate too much air in the emulsion.
4.       Adding acidic ingredients for example ascorbic acid, citric acid or Grapefruit Seed Extract.

Using more natural ingredients often requires more time and experience when using than some of the simpler emulsifying waxes that have been modified to make life simpler. Often natural substances are much more unstable and likely to react to extreme pH levels and other chemicals. Keep this in mind and enjoy your exploration into using your natural ingredients from home and garden.

Instructions

  1. Measure out all your Oil Phase 1 ingredients into a pot.
  2. Measure out all your Water Phase 2 ingredients into a pot.
  3. Put both pots onto the stove top and heat to 70 degrees C/160 degrees F.
  4. When both phases are heated pour into a single pot and mix by hand or with a high speed mixer for at least 5 minutes. Do not whip the mixture or incorporate air into it.
  5. When the mixture has cooled to 40 degrees add your preservatives.
  6. When completely cool put into your clean pots.

We do not recommend using, citric acid, lactic acid or grapefruit seed extract as preservative in this blend as it tends to destabilize it.

Thank you so much for this info! This is very helpful! I made a batch of face cream with this emulsifier a few days ago, and it separated. I think overheating must have been the problem. The website I purchased from didn’t mention any of these things. Thanks again!
