Vitamin Enriched Shampoo with Botanicals

August 9, 2011 By Gina

The addition of Provitamin B5 plus our special botanical complex makes this a high end luxurious shampoo that will make you feel like you have a full head of hair. Nettle will increase the circulation, horsetail adds thickness and gloss, burdock root is full of trace minerals and will keep the scalp from scaling, and white willow will stimulate and increase cell turn over.
Note: to add fragrance or essential oils mix equal parts fragrance and Polysorbate 20 with your oil and then add it to the water. Generally never add more than 5% fragrance to any product. Less is best. Deduct the amount of fragrance and Polysorbate 20 added from you water content. For example if you add 10ml of fragrance to your water deduct 10 ml of water from the total formula.

Instructions

This shampoo may be made in a single stove top or microwave safe vessel.

  1. Measure your purified (preferably distilled water) into a clean container and add your Pro-Vitamin B5,  honey, and Potassium Sorbate. Heat the water up just enough to completely liquefy all the ingredients.
  2. Add your lactic acid , Cocoglucoside, Cocobetaine and Botanicals.-Mix well by hand. Do not use a whipping blender as you do not want to incorporate air into your product.
  3. Decant into a clean container.

Notes: If you want to make a liter (2.2 lbs) of shampoo/wash multiply each ingredient by 10. For example you would need 350 grams of Purefactant™ or 5 grams of Naturaguard™. If you do not have a scale it is reasonably safe to convert these weights to volumes as all the ingredients are safe and will not harm you if you go a bit over or under for each.

  4. Add Part the oil phase to the water phase mixing. Mix well.
  5. Decant into clean container and cap when completely cool (steralise using the hot water method or spray the pots with alcohol thouroughly.

Note: Add Potassium Sorbate to water first and dissolve before adding the other ingredients.

Variations: My hair is strawberry blonde, fine and fairly thick-shoulder length. This formula works great for me and doesn’t weigh my hair down or leave it feeling greasy.

If you have thicker longer hair that tends to tangle you can add more Colzamulse (say up to 2% more) and a bit more oil. I would not exceed 10% oil maximum. Concentrate the conditioner on the ends rather than the roots.

If you have extremely dry hair your can treat it by adding up to 3% lanolin. Concentrate the conditioner on the dry ends.

Scalp Tonic for Hair Growth

An exciting study conducted by Scottish researchers ( Archives of Dermatology (1998; 134:1349-1352) found that aromatherapy can indeed  promote new hair growth and safely and effectively treat temporary hair loss due to alopecia areata. The study had half of their patients massage their scalp with essential oils each day while the other half massaged their scalps with “carrier” oils. After seven months of treatment, 44% of the patients using the essential oils showed significant improvement in hair growth. The group using carrier oils showed 15% improvement. This formula uses our proprietary synergistic blend of essential oils to that purpose.(Thyme, Cedarwood, Lavender, Rosemary and Peppermint). It is simple to make up and may be sprayed directly onto the scalp each morning. We have added Vitamin B5 for thickness and strength.
